Textiles training is a good basis. I studied Textile management and Business Administration at the Swedish School of Textiles in Borås. Usually, you are employed as a purchasing assistant and then progress to become a purchaser.

My five colleagues and I distribute all the products to our stores as late as just a few days before they are out in the store. We consider the store’s sales, storage and area, the product and, not least, our own gut feeling, so as to optimise sales in each store. We work closely with the purchaser, assistant and purchasing controller, the distributor and all our stores.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I like the combination of fashion and sales. After just a few days of sales I can see the results of my distribution and thus fill the stores with the greatest potential sales. It’s a unique opportunity to influence results and is exciting and challenging.

Shop experience is an advantage, as is some form of business training. English language skills are also beneficial as we are anticipating expansion into Europe.

We are on the go the whole time, so it's a question of making quick decisions in all situations and being flexible. We are a company that truly believes in our concept, and are constantly evolving. The fact that one day at Gina Tricot is never the same as the next is something I find very positive, because I love the variety.

I do everything possible. Placing orders, overseeing trials, planning our collection and pricing our products. I literally follow our garments from concept to purchase. I also have daily contact with our suppliers. The variation in my work is what makes the job so much fun for me.

The best part of my job is that there is so much going on all the time and the fact that I am involved with so many different areas. My job also gives me the chance to be involved at every step of the process following a garment from concept to finished product. Having a lot of responsibility and the fact that people trust me also drives me.

You need some form of training in textiles. I myself studied at Proteko here in Borås and chose this route, since an apprenticeship is a big part of the training. It was during my apprenticeship that I realised I wanted to work in the fashion industry. After graduation, I therefore applied for a job at Gina Tricot and have now been a purchasing assistant for almost 18 months.

WHAT DO YOU DO?
Being design assistant means that I make sure everything in my group goes smoothly, as I assist the main designer and product designer. It’s a job that varies from day to day, depending on what stage of the design process we are at. My tasks include helping to select colours and detailing for different garments, making garment sketches and building collection boards. I also work on finding inspiration from a range of media, putting together presentation material, assisting at sample testing and much more.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT YOUR JOB?
Primarily that I can work with fashion, about which I’m passionate, but also that I can keep on developing myself.

Some type of design training as a basis; I studied at the London College of Fashion. Previous experience of the fashion industry is an advantage. Loving fashion is essential.

There are many types of people at Gina Tricot, so I don’t know if you have to be a particular type of person. However, it’s important that you find working in team easy and that you have the ability to make quick decisions and believe in what you do.
WHAT DO YOU DO?
As pattern cutter in the jeans department I am responsible for ensuring the fit for all our jeans garments is as good as possible. I’m also the one who grades the garments into different sizes and makes sure that suppliers follow our instructions so that everything is right. I’m also in charge of translating new descriptions of different garments for the website.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT YOUR JOB?
The fashion that we work with, meaning the new styles, colours, fits and silhouettes. By which I mean that it’s never monotonous.
WHAT IS NECESSARY TO DO YOUR JOB?
Some type of textile training that includes patterns is a good basis. It’s good to have previous experience, but not compulsory. You should have a positive attitude; the right attitude can take you a long way.

As new deliveries come in every day and lots of different things happen, it’s important to be flexible and adapt to every situation. It’s important to be open and have a positive attitude to both the job and the customers. To work in a boutique means to be interested in fashion. I work with fashion all the time and spend a lot of time checking out the latest trends, and it’s an environment where customers often come to me with questions about all that. It’s also important to have a good relationship with your colleagues so that everything runs smoothly. But it also goes without saying that you have to be sales oriented and want to help your customers all the time. You have to be knowledgeable about everything that goes on in the shop, so that you can take charge of all parts of it.

I am a regional manager and am responsible for a region with eight stores. My work involves preparing budgets for each store and helping the stores reach their targets by offering advice and staff training. The most important aspect of my work is the on-going development of the store managers so that they become even better at their job. I report to the Country Manager.
