For three years already, Gina Tricot has been cooperating with Lindex, Kapp-Ahl and MQ in a training project run by Better Cotton. The project focuses on training cotton farmers in Gujarat, India.
During the 2013-14 season, 2,400 farmers were enrolled in training and the farming area impacted by the project totalled 9,600 hectares. The total amount of cotton produced was more than 10,000 tons!
“Using pesticides without understanding the soil requirements had a bad effect on my land and it was one of the reasons why I had such a poor harvest. Once I got involved in the project, I started using natural fertilizers,” says cotton farmer, Chaturbai Devijibhai. “The use of compost is also very popular in my village. This is something we learned during the training.”
Since joining Better Cotton, Devjibhai made a profit for the first time with his crop and he also decided to invest in a drip irrigation system.
