Following a code of conduct is not only about practical issues, but also about complying with laws and regulations. One example of a deviation is when an employer tries to avoid paying the full amount of social security contributions by keeping false payroll records. For this reason, BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) checks that employee wages are paid via a bank and registered correctly.
"It has to do with securing employees' pensions and severance pay. In order for these systems to work, there needs to be correct payroll accounting," says Anna-Karin Wårfors, CSR Manager. "It is great that we are able to work with these types of issues and it is one of the strengths of being part of such a large association as BSCI."
