<p>As an organization we face a number of different challenges in the area of ​​sustainability, and we are determined to continue to challenge ourselves and drive this issue forward. Our pledges to our customers shall ensure a sustainable Gina Tricot by the end of 2028. The pledges cover products for a circular economy, more environmentally sustainable fibers, and sustainable production, transportation and selling of our products. We are determined to be part of making the fashion industry more sustainable by setting tough commitments that permeate through our entire organization and value chain.<strong><br /></strong></p>

<p>Transparency has been and is one of Gina Tricot’s top focus and key areas for many years. For Gina Tricot transparency means control over our product. Transparency from both the social and ecological perspectives are equally important. Our value chain has a very complex structure that makes transparency difficult. <p><strong>Supplier evaluation</strong></p>
<p>Every year we carry out a supplier evaluation to make sure our suppliers are performing well and developing in the areas that are important for Gina Tricot. The supplier evaluation consists of three key components: buying and design, social and environmental sustainability, and logistics. Based on the results, we request an action plan from the supplier regarding agreed improvement areas within a reasonable time frame. Thereafter, we carefully monitor and support the supplier to ensure progress is being made.</p>

Yes. Gina Tricot has a list of chemicals that are limited or prohibited in the production of our products. This list is part of the General Agreement that all suppliers sign before production can begin.

Does Gina Tricot set any demands on its suppliers when it comes to the use of chemicals?

Yes. Gina Tricot and our suppliers carry out regular tests on products from new suppliers and on new materials and products with a higher risk. We also carry out random sample testing from the head office.

Are Gina Tricot's products tested for chemical contents?

Yes. Gina Tricot has a list of quality demands that all products should meet. This list is part of the General Agreement that all suppliers sign before production begins. The suppliers regularly test the quality of the products, and we carry out tests all the time at the head office.

When it comes to product quality, does Gina Tricot set any demands on its suppliers?

Yes. Gina Tricot carries out regular tests on products to maintain as uniform a product quality as possible.

Does Gina Tricot test its products to examine product quality?

No. As a rule, our products/details are not nickel free. But we comply with EU legislation and the limits that have been established so that users do not develop allergies. This means that a certain amount of nickel is allowed and in Gina Tricot’s chemicals list on limited or forbidden chemicals, that is the amount we use. Our jewellery suppliers also comply with our chemicals list.

Does Gina Tricot set demands on jewellery being nickel free?

Yes, Gina Tricot does not allow sandblasting. This is to protect the health and safety of those who work with the manufacture of our products.

Has Gina Tricot taken a stand with regard to the use of sandblasting in jeans production?

What is Gina Tricot's stand when it comes to mulseing?

Gina Tricot does not allow animal testing on our cosmetic products.

Are Gina Tricot products tested on animals?

Yes. Gina Tricot only uses faux fur, which is manufactured from synthetic materials.

When it comes to fur, can I trust that Gina Tricot only uses faux fur in its products?

Gina Tricot only uses down or feathers from birds that have been raised for meat production. We do not allow down or feathers to be plucked from live birds. We only collaborate with one supplier for our down and feather products and that supplier is RDS (Responsible Down Standard) certified.

At Gina Tricot, do you use down or feathers in your products?

Leather is only accepted in our products if it comes from dead animals that have been raised for meat production. We’ve selected a handful of tanneries and suppliers to work with and they are the only ones that we source genuine leather from for our products at Gina Tricot.

How do you work with leather goods?

Gina Tricot does not allow parabens in its makeup products. Parabens are listed in Gina Tricot's chemical list, which is adhered to by our cosmetic suppliers.

Does Gina Tricot have any demands with regard to the use of parabens?

Yes. Gina Tricot uses organic cotton, Better Cotton, Lenzing Viscose, Tencel®, Promodal®, Proviscose® and Recycled polyester. Products manufactured from these materials typically have a label, which makes it easier for our customers to shop sustainably at Gina Tricot stores.

Does Gina Tricot use environmentally friendly materials?

All products with care advice are also marked with their country of origin.

Can you see where Gina Tricot's products are manufactured?

Yes. Our code of conduct is the basis of our work with all responsibility issues at Gina Tricot. The code of conduct covers our demands with regard to wages, working hours, health and safety, which our suppliers must adhere to. These demands are based on international labour standards (ILO) and are used by all members of BSCI.

Does Gina Tricot have a code of conduct?

As a member of BSCI, Gina Tricot has access to a platform for following up our suppliers. We also visit our suppliers on a regular basis.

How does Gina Tricot ensure that the code of conduct is adhered to?

The Business Social Compliance Initiative is an organisation that works to improve working conditions in our suppliers' countries. By being a part of this organisation, we have access to tools for following up and educating our suppliers.

What is BSCI?

Gina Tricot does not accept child labour, but we are aware that it is difficult to monitor the entire production chain. The rules in the code of conduct are there to protect children from financial exploitation, from carrying out work that is dangerous, affects their education or is harmful to the child's health and development. Unfortunately child labour survives because the laws that exist are not followed fully and due to the weakness of social and political systems in many countries. If someone under the age of 15 should be found working in a factory, as part of BSCI we have a plan for how this is to be dealt with, with the focus being on helping the child.

Does child labour occur in the factories where you have your production?

The majority of our manufacturing is done in Turkey, followed by China, Bangladesh, Pakistan and India. A small percentage of manufacturing also occurs in a few European countries.

Where are the clothes you sell produced?

We work with the tools that BSCI provides, audits, training courses and knowledge exchange, among other things. BSCI is a business-driven initiative for companies committed to improving working conditions in the global supply chain. The basis of the follow up is BSCI's code of conduct and it is also fundamental in the contracts we sign with our suppliers.

Gina Tricot does not own the factories, how can you be sure that inspections are carried out and followed?

An important prerequisite for long-term improvements in working conditions is based on trust between supplier and client. Our own visits to suppliers are planned, partly due to our work with creating this trust, but also to ensure that the people we need to meet are actually on site when we visit. Audits are also carried out on planned dates for the same reasons as above, plus the fact that there is an extensive audit questionnaire with more than 400 questions that need to be answered. A lot of the questions require supporting documentation and, to ensure that all documents are available, it is necessary to plan the visit. There are also unannounced visits, particularly if we suspect that something is wrong.

Are the factory inspections planned or unannounced?

Our goal is to, together with our suppliers, achieve a safe and positive working environment for the people who produce our products. Dialogue and supplier development are key terms in achieving this goal. We do not own the factories that produce our clothes, so a close cooperation with our suppliers is a prerequisite for ensuring our clothes and accessories meet the demands we have on design and quality. Plus the fact that the factories where production is carried out meet the demands in our code of conduct. In order to be able to follow up the work at our suppliers, we have been part of BSCI since the spring of 2008. We visit the factories continuously with regard to product development and to inform them of, and carry out inspections to ensure they are adhering to, the code of conduct. This is time-consuming work and a constant ongoing process.

You have all your production in low-wage countries, how do you ensure that the people producing your clothes have fair conditions?

Ensuring the workplace is safe and healthy is one of the 11 areas in the code of conduct and it is followed up during an audit. The checks include safety equipment, fire protection, access to toilets and clean water.

How do you check that the factories are safe?

The right to freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining are in our code of conduct. We cannot carry out union activities, but we can set demands that joining should be acceptable.

Do you allow trade unions in the factories?

Gina Tricot owns no factories of its own; we purchase goods from a range of different manufacturers. It is our opinion that it is in each particular country that wages are best determined between the employer and the employee, with support from the national legislation In our code of conduct, we demand that the suppliers pay at least the legal minimum wage. Today there is no definition of a 'survival wage' for each country or region, but there are a number of different ways to calculate it. In those cases where a minimum wage is too low, we feel that it should regularly be audited by local authorities to reflect other inflation rates in society.

Why don't you pay the factory workers minimum wages they can live on?

A big part of sustainability efforts involves reducing waste. Unwanted items can be dropped of at our stores in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Germany. Our recycling partner, Human Bridge, takes over these items. They work with a partner company in Holland, which has the capacity for large-scale textile recycling. We donate leftover items from our stores to Human Bridge or Fretex, in Norway. To learn more about recycling, we belong to a network in our industry and are in continual dialogue with stakeholders.

You manufacture a large quantity of clothing. What is your responsibility for dealing with this clothing after it is no longer wanted by customers?

Our office in Borås is built to consume at least 25% less energy than prescribed by Swedish construction standards. Energy saving measures and results obtained are reviewed by the Sweden Green Building Council.

Your head office is a so-called Green Building, was does that mean?

In spring 2013, we published our first Sustainability Report and we will publish a new report each spring. The Sustainability Report is available at The Good Project.

Does Gina Tricot publish a sustainability report?

We care very much about animals. For this reason, we don't use angora, down, feathers or real fur. When we use merino wool, it is always sourced from farms that do not use the museling procedure. Our genuine leather products are always from animals raised for food purposes and we only source from tanneries that we have closely investigated.

At Gina Tricot, do you use any materials from animals in your products?

We do not use merino wool at all because we want to take a stand against mulesing and the way in which sheep are often transported.

What is Gina Tricot's position on mulesing?

<h3>Code of conduct</h3>
<p>In the code of conduct we have collected all our ethical requirements in relation to our suppliers and partners. The code contains all our requirements and forms the basis of our corporate responsibility. The code of conduct is based on the UN report on human rights, international labor organization practice and the UN report on children's rights.</p>
<p>Our code of conduct applies to the entire supply chain and we are dedicated to continuously and transparently work with our suppliers for a long-term positive sustainable impact. This is done through a close relationship with our suppliers, frequent visits, and by implementing our own internal requirements and amfori bsci code of conduct. Amfori bsci's code of conduct is based on international labor law rules, such as the general declaration on human rights, children's rights and business principles, the UN's guiding principles for business and human rights, etc.</p>

<h3>(the) accord bangladesh</h3>
<p>The Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh is an international agreement with action plans pertaining to construction, fire, and electrical safety. The agreement was established to create safer factories in the Bangladesh clothing industry following the 2013 Rhana Plaza collapse at the capital city, Dhaka, in which 1,129 workers lost their lives. The Accord is a collaboration among international and local unions, clothing companies, and trade organisations. In total, more than 1,600 factories are covered by the programme. Gina Tricot signed the agreement in 2013 and the company also signed Accord 2018, which covers a three-year period starting in May 2018.</p>

<h3>amfori bsci</h3>
<p>Amfori (formerly the Business Social Compliance Initiative, BSCI) is an organisation that strives to bring about better working conditions in the supply chain. At present, Amfori has brought together more than 2,000 companies in agreement on a shared Code of Conduct and supports these companies’ efforts to address social and environmental issues in the supply chain. Gina Tricot has been a member of Amfori BSCI since 2011. As members, we pledge to implement the Code of Conduct in our supply chains. Membership also gives us access to a platform for collecting relevant information about audits and our suppliers. The platform is an important tool in our continuous efforts to evaluate and monitor production.<br /><br /></p>

<h3>better cotton (bci)</h3>
<p>The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes a better future, for both people and communities involved in cotton farming, and for industries in which cotton plays an important role. Within the framework of BCI, farmers are trained in more sustainable methods that include everything from water use to fertilisers and insect control. The aim is not to produce organic cotton, but to help bring about more sustainable cotton production on a larger scale and improve the conditions for cotton producers. Gina Tricot has been a member of the Better Cotton Initiative since 2011.<br /><br />Gina Tricot is a member of the Better Cotton Initiative to improve the conditions of cotton cultivation around the globe. Better Cotton is purchased through a system of mass balance and is not physically traceable to the end product. It’s better for the environments in which the cotton is grown and for the sector as a whole. Buying cotton products from Gina Tricot is a way for you to support the Better Cotton Initiative farmers, so they can use water more efficiently, ensure good soil health and natural environments, reduce use of dangerous chemicals, and respect the rights and welfare of workers</p>

<h3>canopystyle</h3>
<p>CanopyStyle is an initiative to ensure that supply chains are free of viscose manufactured from wood that comes from virgin or endangered forests. As part of this initiative, the non-profit environmental organisation Canopy partners with companies in the textile industry to influence fibre manufacturers and help speed up the process. The goal is to protect endangered forests and develop innovative solutions for more sustainable fibre production.<br /><br />Gina Tricot contributes to the initiative by getting our suppliers involved and creating transparency downstream in the viscose supply chain. By documenting our viscose supply chain, we hope to ensure to the greatest extent possible that we do not rely on any wood from virgin or endangered forests.<br /><br />Gina Tricot has also signed the Pack 4 Good initiative to work with better packaging solutions. <h3>fur free retailer</h3>
<p>Fur Free Retailer is a world-leading programme initiated by Fur Free Alliance, an international coalition of animal and environmental protection organisations. The programme involves and motivates companies to work together and become fur-free. It also helps increase transparency for consumers interested in fur-free products. The initiative has resulted in a digital list that guides consumers to companies that are involved in the programme. Gina Tricot joined the initiative in 2011.<br /><br /></p>
<h3>human bridge / fretex</h3>
<p>Human Bridge is a professional organisation working with medical equipment aid. The organisation supplies hospitals around the world with used but well-functioning equipment. It also supplies clothing and other materials in places where there has been a humanitarian disaster. Gina Tricot has collaborated with Human Bridge and Fretex, its Norwegian equivalent, since 2010. Through this collaboration, Human Bridge/Fretex manage the products that our customers take to stores for reuse or recycling, or because the item is defective.</p>

<h3>one bag habit</h3>
<p>One Bag Habit is a joint effort by retailers to raise awareness among consumers about sustainability and lower the consumption of plastic bags. As of 1 June 2017, we charge for the bags sold at our stores and encourage customers to purchase sustainable bags that can be reused. All of the proceeds from the sale of bags go to charitable organisations that focus on sustainable development regarding environmental and social issues. Gina Tricot has been a member of the initiative since its inception.</p>

<h3>re:newcell</h3>
<p>Gina Tricot started working with Re:newcell in 2018. Re:newcell uses cotton waste to produce clean, natural, biodegradable raw materials that can be used for new clothes of the highest quality – and these clothes can be recycled over and over and over again.<br /><br />With the help of our denim suppliers, Gina Tricot regularly donates textile waste to Re:newcell’s factories. This material is converted into new textile fibres that can be used over and over again. Our goal is to involve even more of our suppliers in the same initiative and of course increase our share of donated textile waste to Re:newcell.</p>

<h3>stica</h3>
<p>The purpose of the Swedish Textiles Initiative for Climate Action (STICA) is to support the apparel and textile industries and their stakeholders in the Nordic region to reduce greenhouse gases, at minimum, in line with the 1.5 °C warming pathway, as outlined by the United Nations Framework on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement. Ultimately, STICA’s aim is to ensure that the Swedish and Nordic textile industry does more than its share by becoming the first climate-positive apparel and textiles industry in the world, well before 2050. Gina Tricot became a member of STICA during 2019.</p>

<h3>swedish chemicals agency industry dialogue</h3>
<p>The Swedish Chemicals Agency is a supervisory authority under the Government of Sweden. It is responsible for ensuring that companies and society at large conduct controls of chemicals in an acceptable manner. Gina Tricot participates in the Agency’s dialogue with industry to bring together government authorities, professional organisations, manufacturers, and distributors. Together, we discuss industry-specific issues and create action plans for a toxin-free everyday environment.</p>

<p>The Textile Exchange is a global, not-for-profit organisation that cooperates closely with its members to bring about change in the industry, with respect to fibre selection, ethics and standards, and responsible supplier networks. Read more here.</p>

<h3>textiles for recycling initiative (t4ri)</h3>
<p>The Textiles for Recycling Initiative (T4RI) was set up through the efforts of several member companies of the Swedish Trade Federation. T4RI would like industry to take its share of the responsibility for ensuring that textiles have a longer life, or even a new life. With a focus on environmental benefits and a circular economy, the idea is that first and foremost, textiles should be reused. After that, they should be recycled in the best possible way by creating new fibres. Gina Tricot’s role in the initiative is to collaborate with the other companies in the reference group to create the conditions for doing this, discuss solutions for better re-use and recycling in the textile industry, and promote a healthy atmosphere for taking responsibility.</p>

<h3>the chemicals group</h3>
<p>The Chemicals Group is a network for sharing knowledge and news about chemical and environmental issues with its member companies. Through this network, more than a hundred companies have joined forces to tackle issues having to do with legal requirements and chemicals. They also share knowledge and information on responsible chemicals management. The network is run by Swerea IVF together with government authorities and experts from academia.</p>

<h3>the nordic swan ecolabel</h3>
<p>Since autumn 2019, Gina Tricot has worked with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel initiative. The Swan is one of the world’s leading and most stringent environmental labelling schemes. This is a Type 1 environmental label, which means that it is an independent organisation that works according to the life-cycle perspective and with a holistic approach to development of criteria. </p>
<p>We are very happy that our popular basic T-shirts are now certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. These must-have, all-round faves can be styled with just about anything for a fashionable, casual look. Our Swan Ecolabel-marked T-shirts are available in beautiful colours, and are made with reduced environmental impact in every step of production – from raw materials to the finished product.</p>

<p>The Swedish Trade Federation arranges network meetings to discuss issues concerning animal welfare and materials originating from animals. In 2017, as a result of the group’s efforts, the Swedish Trade Federation was able to launch an animal protection policy aimed at increasing knowledge and raising awareness about animal welfare issues. The policy has also been supplemented with a guide for purchasers and designers, regarding materials that originate from animals.</p>

<p>UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) is a United Nations programme that provides humanitarian and developmental assistance, along with disaster prevention and preparedness via its field offices throughout the world. Gina Tricot began collaborating with UNICEF in 2011, focusing on education of small children in Bangladesh. The project ran for more than six years and has ensured that 26,500 children (4–5 years old) have received access to education. Since then, we have continued collaboration in Dhaka, where families in particularly vulnerable areas have been given improved access to healthcare, nutrition, water, sanitary facilities, and education. In recent years, Gina Tricot has also held store campaigns that provide additional support to UNICEF.<br /></p>

<h3>world childhood foundation</h3>
<p>The World Childhood Foundation works to ensure that children who have been exposed to different risk situations, in Sweden and abroad, obtain living conditions and are thus able to develop into strong, secure, and responsible people. By supporting Childhood, Gina Tricot contributes to more children having a secure and caring start, filled with joy, love and curiosity about life. Gina Tricot began its collaboration with CHILDHOOD during 2019.</p>

<p>In 2020 we initiated a partnership with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), to ensure that Gina Tricot’s water strategy complies with the WWF model for Water Stewardship. During the collaboration, we’ll continue to evaluate our risks, and develop goals, strategies, and action plans based on those risks as well as the opportunities that we have to improve the water environment.</p>
