retro inspired swimwear
This season’s latest swimwear trend is spelled: RETRO. Pretty pastel mixes, flirty floral prints, and silhouettes inspired by the looks and colours of the 70s. Matching bikini sets in soft fabrics that are perfect for a relaxed staycation this summer. Let our designer Malin Larsson inspire you as she tells us more about the collection.
How would you describe this swimwear collection?
This retro inspired swimwear collections flirts with 70s, we like to embrace the golden era of staycation in uncertain times. Classically structured silhouettes with underwiring bras, high-waisted briefs and high-leg bottoms. Garden inspired prints with sun bleached effect mixed with toweling fabrics and tactile structures.
Where did you find inspiration for the designs?
Staycation is a new theme within swimwear, we look back at simpler and better times via retro-inspired collections. Lots of the inspirations for this collection is from old vintage pictures from the 70s mixed with nostalgic cottage life and gardening activities.
What’s new in this collection, that we haven’t seen before at Gina Tricot?
I love that this collection is retro inspired, to embrace old styles and silhouettes. I think this collection feels fresh with lots of spring flowers and soft pastels combined with terry. I think this feels new I don’t think that we have seen this combination before at Gina.
What’s your personal favourite?
I like the swimwear in terry, it feels new in fabric and I can wear the top on different activities, not only at the beach.
What’s the biggest trend in swimwear fashion for SS21?
The biggest trend for spring/summer 21 is this 70s nostalgia, and 80s sport athletic with bright and bold colours. We also see a lot of romantic garden inspiration with pretty ruffles and gingham patterns in matching sets with blankets, totes and bucket hats.
